Proficiencies
Metadata standards: Proficiency in creating and crosswalking metadata using a number of descriptive standards including MODS, Dublin Core, MARC, EAD, and others. Experience applying content standards such as AACR2 and DACS and controlled vocabularies/thesauri, including LCSH, LCTGM, LCNAF, AAT, TGN, and others. Familiarity with the FRBR principles and RDA. Experience developing preservation and technical metadata strategies using PREMIS, MIX, and other standards. Familiarity with semantic web technologies, linked data principles, structural metadata standards, and exchange protocols, including RDF, OAI-ORE, METS, OAI-PMH and others.
XML and data exchange formats: Experience creating, editing, parsing, and manipulating XML documents using a variety of tools including XML editors such as Oxygen and XMLSpy, scripting languages Python and Powershell, and XML languages XSLT, XPath, and XQuery. Experience applying Schematron quality control mechanisms to XML creation workflows. Substantial training in TEI text encoding. Knowledge of MARC21 formats and experience crosswalking data between MARC21 and XML data formats using MarcEdit, XSLT, and other tools. Familiarity with JSON.
Programming: Experience scripting automation and data manipulation tasks with Powershell, VBA, and Python. Basic familiarity with command line interfaces, SSH, and version control software. Reading knowledge of Perl, PHP, and others. Familiarity with query languages SQL, XQuery, and SPARQL.
Digital asset management systems: Experience with CONTENTdm, Archivists’ Toolkit, bepress. Familiarity with DSpace and Fedora architectures. Experience installing and administering LAMP-based content management systems such as WordPress and Drupal.
Web: Experience creating, editing, and maintaining web pages and sites with HTML, CSS, and web publishing platforms WordPress, Drupal, and Omeka. Familiarity with HTML5 and Javascript.
Media: Knowledge of image and audio digitization best practices. Experience editing digital assets in Photoshop, Audacity, and Adobe Acrobat.
